OUR HISTORY

The legacy of innovative builder Fred Kemp  continues with The Kemp Homes Company

Background to The Kemp Homes Company

Since 1952 Fred M. Kemp built a reputation for designing and building exciting, yet timeless homes through honesty and integrity in design, quality construction and workmanship with union-trained carpentry and foundation crews.  Each home was designed to fit the natural opportunity of the land area, emphasizing indoor-outdoor relationships, and continuing excitement long after community completed.
Today Mr. Kemp’s legacy and passion for building continues with his son Bill Kemp and Mark Teitelbaum along with Mr. Kemp’s staff who all have extensive experience within the industry.

Armed with a Business Degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship from St. Louis University along with knowledge and expertise within the industry, Bill has maintained the same principles of construction as his father did by providing customers with superior craftsmanship, value, and quality, without compromise.  “No matter what price point, our customers will experience superb quality construction and attention to detail demonstrated by our selection of materials, design,  and workmanship of their home,” explains Bill.

Mark Teitelbaum, a veteran of more than 32 years in private and municipal land use, homebuilding, and with an architectural background and a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning is also Co-Manager within the company.

The legacy of Fred M. Kemp

Part of the history of home-building in St. Louis is the enduring legacy of Fred M. Kemp. A gifted architect and visionary and past President of the St. Louis Home Builders Association, he was a nationally recognized leader in the industry.  Fred Kemp introduced many new concepts to the St. Louis community in the 10,000 homes built since his start in 1952. Kemp was the FIRST to design communities with private parks and swimming pool; the FIRST to market new homes with billboards, radio and television; the FIRST to plan for permanent broad open spaces, referred to as common ground within his communities; and the FIRST to build zero lot line homes.  Many of these are considered standard practice in the industry today.

As a student, our founder, Fred Kemp was inspired by the architectural drawings hanging at Washington University’s School of Architecture, from which he graduated in 1950.  He began to pursue his dream of applying his architecture principles to suburban home development and building well-designed, affordable housing throughout the St. Louis area.
